Abilene is the county seat of Taylor County, TX. The city has a population of just under 123,000, and certain areas in particular have been growing rapidly the last few years thanks to an effort to reinvigorate its downtown with several new developments. This historic downtown area lies to the north of a railroad which bisects the city horizontally. Abilene is nicknamed "The Friendly Frontier" to connect its pioneering spirit with its current focus on pushing boundaries in a variety of industries. The city's economy once depended on agriculture and livestock, but has now evolved to include education, healthcare, and manufacturing. This has formed the culture of Abilene into a mixture of a college town and an agricultural community. Additionally, 2,600 people are employed by the area's largest hospital, which originally opened in 1934. Though much smaller and more specialized, The Vein Center is proud to serve Abilene's health needs as well!
