AMBULATORY PHLEBECTOMY

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

What is Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Ambulatory Phlebectomy is a variation of surgical stripping used for the surface removal of varicose veins. This is usually done in the office using local anesthesia. Multiple, tiny incisions are made to segment and remove the affected vein.

Although the number of incisions is greater in this procedure compared to traditional surgical stripping, the recovery period is shorter, and less damage is done to the leg.

Aftercare

After the vein has been removed by phlebectomy, a bandage and/or compression stocking is worn for a short period. Because of the small size of these incision, stitches are generally not necessary. Nearly imperceptible puncture marks may be visible after this procedure.
