What is Ligation & Stripping

Ligation and stripping are more surgical methods to treat varicose veins and include tying off the vein, creating an incision, and removing the long vein segment(s) by pulling it out with a specially-designed instrument. 

Due to the nature of this treatment, it is performed under general or spinal anesthetic in a hospital operating room. This treatment is generally referred for those suffering from extremely large or reoccurring varicose veins.

Aftercare

This method can be more painful than other treatment options and calls for a longer recovery period. While hospitalization may be required for several days after the procedure has been completed, this depends on the patient and the individual case. Many patients do return home on the same day of the procedure.
